🏠 Florida Homestead Exemption (Apply Online) — IMPORTANT: It’s Filed by COUNTY (No Statewide Portal)

✅ Who qualifies for Florida Homestead Exemption?

You may qualify if ALL (or essentially all) of the following are true:

  • You own the property (legal/equitable or beneficial title)
  • The home is your permanent Florida residence (or the permanent residence of your dependent) as of January 1
  • You apply with the Property Appraiser in the county where the property is located (the property appraiser determines eligibility)
  • You apply by March 1 of the tax year (state deadline)
  • You are not claiming a residency-based tax exemption/credit in another state (Florida generally allows only one “permanent residency” benefit)

⚠️ You can lose eligibility if the home is rented, no longer your permanent home, or you’re no longer a permanent Florida resident.
